About Novum Partners
Novum Partners is a strategic management firm serving churches, nonprofits, and faith-driven businesses nationwide. We combine technical excellence with a faith-driven culture to help mission-minded organizations operate with integrity, transparency, and excellence. Our client portfolio spans 350+ active organizations across three primary sectors: Church, Nonprofit, and For-Profit. We are building the premier strategic management firm for the faith-driven sector — and we are looking for leaders who want to build something that matters.
About the Role
The Senior Accountant is an experienced, independent accounting professional who owns the day-to-day financial operations for a defined set of partner organizations within the pod. This role handles the full spectrum of client accounting work — from month-end close and financial reporting to ongoing accounts management and compliance support — with the technical competence and professional judgment to operate without close supervision.
The Senior Accountant is also the first layer of leadership within the team. Bookkeepers report directly to this role, and the Senior Accountant is responsible for directing their day-to-day work, reviewing their output, and developing their skills. The Senior Accountant is the bridge between the foundational bookkeeping work happening below and the quality standards and client expectations set above.
This is a high-execution role that demands both technical depth and relational presence. Senior Accountants manage meaningful client relationships independently, represent Novum with professionalism in every interaction, and bring sound judgment to complex accounting situations — escalating appropriately to the Director of Accounting when situations exceed their authority or expertise.
Organizational Context
The Senior Accountant reports to the Accounting Director of Accounting and serves as the direct supervisor of Bookkeepers assigned within the pod. The Senior Accountant works closely with Associate Accountants on shared client work and collaborates with the Controller on technically complex accounting questions and compliance matters.
Key Responsibilities
Client Accounting & Financial Operations
- Own the full-cycle accounting function for an assigned portfolio of partner organizations, managing all day-to-day financial operations with accuracy, consistency, and professionalism.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes for assigned clients, executing close checklists, reconciling accounts, and ensuring financial statements are accurate and delivered on time.
- Prepare and present financial statements, management reports, and client-facing financial summaries tailored to each partner's organizational structure and leadership needs.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoice generation, vendor payment management, and receivables tracking.
- Perform and review bank and account reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Ensure proper expense categorization, coding, and documentation across all assigned client accounts.
- Maintain audit-ready financial records with clear, organized documentation trails for all transactions.
- Apply GAAP principles consistently across all client work; escalate technical accounting questions or standards interpretation to the Controller and or Director of Accounting as appropriate.
Bookkeeper Supervision & Development
- Direct the day-to-day work of Bookkeepers assigned within the team, providing clear task assignments, workflow guidance, and prioritization support.
- Review Bookkeeper work product — transaction entries, reconciliations, bill payments, and filing — before it advances in the workflow, serving as the first quality gate within the team.
- Identify errors, inconsistencies, or process gaps in Bookkeeper work and address them through direct coaching and clear actionable guidance.
- Develop Bookkeepers' technical skills and professional habits through consistent, constructive feedback and ongoing mentorship.
- Escalate Bookkeeper performance concerns to the Director of Accounting with clear documentation and a recommended course of action.
Client Relationship Management
- Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned client organizations, building reliable, trusted relationships with finance staff, operations leaders, and organizational contacts.
- Respond to client inquiries and information requests promptly — within 24 hours as a standard — with accurate and well-organized responses.
- Participate in regular client check-in meetings, presenting financial updates and operational summaries with clarity and confidence.
- Identify and escalate emerging client concerns, relationship risks, or service quality issues to the Director of Accounting before they become larger problems.
- Represent Novum Partners with professionalism, warmth, and a genuine commitment to the success of each partner organization.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all client financial records and transactions are maintained in compliance with applicable accounting standards, organizational policies, and Novum SOPs.
- Support the preparation and coordination of compliance-related documentation, including audit support packages, 990-related schedules, and year-end reporting requirements.
- For nonprofit and church clients, apply appropriate fund accounting treatment and
- restricted fund documentation in accordance with ASC 958 and Controller guidance.
- Maintain complete and organized digital filing systems for all financial documents, ensuring records are audit-ready at all times.
- Adhere strictly to Novum's established close checklists, reporting templates, and documentation standards.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate closely with Associate Accountants on team portfolio work, coordinating task handoffs and maintaining consistent communication across the team.
- Bring process observations and improvement suggestions to the Director of Accounting— recurring inefficiencies, workflow bottlenecks, or quality risks that could be addressed systematically.
- Actively participate in team meetings, knowledge-sharing sessions, and firm-wide initiatives.
- Pursue continuous development of technical accounting skills, platform proficiency, and professional knowledge in support of personal growth and team capability.

- 4–7 years of progressive accounting experience, with demonstrated ability to manage client accounts independently.
- Solid working knowledge of GAAP and its application across day-to-day accounting tasks.
- Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Bill.com; comfort learning and adopting new accounting platforms quickly.
- Proven ability to manage month-end close processes, financial statement preparation, and account reconciliations with accuracy and consistency.
